Motorcyclist dies in crash on Lancaster County highway, troopers say

LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. — A motorcyclist died in a crash on Highway 521 in Lancaster County early Sunday morning, according to Highway Patrol.

Troopers were called before 1:30 a.m. to Highway 521 near Shiloh Unity Road, about three miles north of the city of Lancaster.

According to investigators, a motorcyclist was heading south on Highway 521 when he hit a car that was coming onto the highway from what troopers called a “private drive.”

No further information was made available.

The motorcycle driver, later identified as 43-year-old James Barwick from Lancaster, died at the scene, troopers said.

By Channel 9′s count, this was the third of four crashes in our area in a 12-hour period that involved a motorcycle. All four crashes were deadly.

One person died on Interstate 485 in southwest Charlotte Saturday evening in a crash involving a motorcycle, according to paramedics.

Then, just before 1 a.m. Sunday, troopers said a motorcyclist died in a crash on Highway 321 near the Bowling Green community in York County.

About three hours later, police said a motorcyclist died just outside of downtown Salisbury after they hit power lines knocked into the roadway in an earlier crash.
