1 killed in motorcycle crash in York County, troopers say

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash in York County involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck.

It happened just before 1 a.m. Sunday on Highway 321, near the Bowling Green community.

According to troopers, the motorcyclist was heading north on Highway 321 as the pickup truck driver was going south. That was when the truck crossed over and crashed head-on into the motorcycle, troopers said.

The driver of the motorcycle, later identified as 59-year-old Melvin Poteat, died at the scene.

Pathology and toxicology results are pending, according to the York County Coroner’s Office.

Troopers did not say if the truck driver will face any charges.
