ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — Firefighters say everyone is accounted for following a four-alarm apartment fire that took place in Rowan County Saturday evening.

Crews battled flames in and around the apartment building.

The complex sits off Julian Road near I-85, between Salisbury and Granite Quarry.

A neighbor told Channel 9’s Glenn Counts that the fire spread so fast people were jumping out from the upper floors.

No one was seriously injured, but there were some minor injuries.

Departments from all over the county responded to the Grand Apartments on Julian Road around 7 p.m. Saturday.

The fire started on the third floor of one of the buildings.

Officials told Channel 9 that some residents were actually forced to jump from the third floor.

Joel Bates lives in a neighboring apartment. He actually ran and caught a mother and her child.

At one point the blaze was so intense that firefighters were evacuated because of threat of a building collapse.

One firefighter was injured, but not seriously.

At least 60 people have been displaced. The Red Cross is on scene helping them with their needs.

In terms of a cause, investigators may not be able to get into the building until Sunday.
