ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. — The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down along the Crystal Coast early Tuesday morning, according to WRAL.

NWS officials said the storm damaged areas in eastern Atlantic Beach and along the Morehead City waterfront after touching down around 4:45 a.m. Tuesday.
Officials said the tornado was classified as a weak EF1 tornado with winds between 85 and 90 mph.

Most of the damage to the area included downed power lines after the tornado snapped utility poles and a couple of destroyed storage buildings.
