NC lawmakers pass amendment to cap property taxes

RALEIGH, N.C. — Lawmakers in North Carolina have passed a constitutional amendment to cap property tax levies.

The constitutional amendment will now be added to the November ballot for voters to make the final decision.

House Bill 1089 passed the North Carolina Senate Wednesday by a vote of 73-46. The constitutional amendment would keep inflation from impacting property taxes too much. It’s unclear what that limit would be.

The bill was filed in April.
