North Iredell High School student taken into custody after gun discovered at track meet

TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. — A North Iredell High School student was taken into custody Wednesday after a gun was found in his car at Alexander Central High School.

Police arrived on scene just before 3 p.m., and authorities confirmed that no students were threatened or in immediate danger.

Investigators were tipped off when students reported a concern through the See Something Say Something app, an anonymous reporting tool. A school resource officer provided the information to police, who were able to intercept the student as he arrived for a track and field meet.

Officers found the gun inside the student’s car upon his arrival. According to the Taylorsville Police Department, the weapon was never outside of the vehicle at any time.

The student was taken into custody and transported to juvenile detention.
