2 dead after vehicle hits bridge in Catawba County

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — Conover Boulevard West in Catawba County was shut down Monday afternoon after a deadly crash near the bridges that cross Highway 70.

Police say two people were killed after they struck a telephone pole and hit a bridge pillar around 2:20 p.m.

The Conover Police Department identified the victims as 76-year-old Nathan Lehman and 73-year-old Harriet Lehman. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Nathan Lehman was driving at the time of the crash, police said.

Investigators say weather was not a contributing factor in the crash. Officials are still looking into the cause.
