Piedmont Natural Gas seeks 6% rate increase in South Carolina

Piedmont Natural Gas is requesting a 6.3% rate increase for South Carolina customers.

The utility filed a request with the Public Service Commission to increase its rates to recover the costs of building infrastructure for its expanding South Carolina customer base.

If approved, the utility expects the typical South Carolina customer to pay $7.67 per month more on an average bill or about $92 more per year.

Currently, PNG’s South Carolina rate is 60 cents lower than its North Carolina rate. Channel 9 asked PNG about how these rates are structured and what accounts for the difference earlier this year.
