Publix opens Wesley Chapel store, confirms 2 more Charlotte-area locations

WESLEY CHAPEL, N.C. — Publix Super Markets Inc.’s growing footprint now includes a store in Wesley Chapel.

The Lakeland, Florida-based grocer’s 50,325-square-foot store opened Nov. 4 at 6460 Weddington Road. This marks Publix’s third Union County store — and its 23rd in the Charlotte market.

“We’ve seen tremendous growth in the Wesley Chapel area, and this location gives us another opportunity to serve customers as the community continues to grow,” says Jared Glover, Publix spokesperson.

The store serves as the anchor tenant for the third phase of Village Commons, being developed by Charlotte-based Aston Properties and Atlanta real estate firm Branch Properties. That project added 110,000 square feet of retail at the intersection of N.C. Highway 84 and Waxhaw Indian Trail Road.

“This phase builds on the strength of the existing center and gives residents more options for groceries, shopping and healthcare close to home,” says George Dewey, president and CEO of Aston.

Glover confirmed Publix’s plans for two additional stores in the market: Cadia Village in Matthews and Redhawk Point in Cramerton.
