YORK COUNTY, S.C. — The main courtroom in the renovated York County Courthouse will hold court for the first time on Monday, but visitors won't see the Confederate flag hanging inside.
When the clerk removed the flag in January, he might have violated the Heritage Act, prompting the county to ask the state attorney general for a legal opinion on the matter.
South Carolina lawmakers removed the Confederate battle flag from statehouse grounds in 2015 after pictures surfaced showing the Charleston church shooter, Dylann Roof, posing with the flag.
