Restaurant Bites: What's new and what's coming to a menu near you

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte's South End — in the midst of a development boom that includes a plethora of new tech jobs and office projects — is also buzzing with retail activity as new restaurants and bars continue to move into the neighborhood.

One such establishment, Lincoln Street Kitchen & Cocktails, opened at 1320 S. Church St. in mid-October, dishing up new-American small plates made from locally sourced ingredients. Still to come in South End is North Italia, an Italian eatery that will begin serving made-from-scratch favorites next month at The RailYard development, and Elsewhere, a craft cocktail bar slated to open in mid-December at the Design Center of the Carolinas complex. Wooden Robot Brewery co-founder Josh Patton is one of the partners behind that latter concept, which is described as a private club that will offer its spin on classic drinks in addition to an evolving specialty cocktail program.

And there's also a looming relocation by Sycamore Brewing — next door to its current site. That popular South End brewery is on track to move by summer 2021 from its existing location at 2161 Hawkins St. into a 16-story, 280,000-square-foot mixed-use tower that's expected to break ground in December or January. There are plans to redevelop Sycamore's current 1.6-acre property with a second building that's likely to contain about 250,000 square feet of office and retail space.

But the new lineup of restaurant and bar concepts aren't just limited to South End. The latest installment of Restaurant Bites provides a full look at the latest happenings in the Charlotte area's culinary scene, as reported in October by CBJ staffers. Check it out here.
