Smoke detectors help Kannapolis homeowners escape fire unharmed

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — Firefighters were trying to determine what started a fire that caused extensive damage to a home in Kannapolis early Tuesday.

Fire crews were called around 1:45 a.m. to the home on Jackson Park Road and saw heavy smoke coming from the house.

The people living inside were able to escape unharmed, officials said, thanks to smoke detectors.
