South Carolina minimum wage can’t cover average rent, report finds

COLUMBIA, S.C. — New reports claim workers earning minimum wage can’t afford a two-bedroom apartment.

The data comes from the National Low Income Housing Coalition.

According to the Herald, the fair market rent is a little more than $1,300.

To afford that, renters would need to earn at least $26 an hour.

That number, however, is four times South Carolina’s minimum wage.
