STATESVILLE, N.C. — Monday night will be a historic one in Statesville, as the City Council will swear in its first female African-American member.
Doris Allison has spent the last 20 years working as a community activist in the area, where she’s pushed for crackdowns on liquor houses after her brother was killed in one in 1992.
John Staford and Steve Johnson will join Allison as newly elected councilmembers.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in City Hall.
