FOLLY BEACH, S.C. — A South Carolina surfer is being hailed a hero after he rescued a man who nearly drowned at Folly Beach over the weekend.

Liam Becker said he was surfing Saturday when he and another man saw the victim struggling in a rip current.

That’s when Becker started paddling fast.

The swimmer was also struggling because he was having an asthma attack and his inhaler was on the beach, according to officials.

“I knew it was go time,” he said. “Paddled as hard and as fast as I could. I got up to him, I grabbed his arms, I pulled him up.”

The man has since been released from the hospital and Becker said he’s doing fine.
