CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Charlotte charter school once again came in at the top of its class as one of the region’s best public schools for 2019.
Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy, already ranked as the Charlotte area’s best public elementary school, also earned the top spot on a ranking of local middle schools.
Those rankings come courtesy of research and review site Niche.com, which releases annual lists of the best K-12 schools, colleges and neighborhoods across the nation.
For its ranking of public middle schools, Pittsburgh-based Niche analyzed U.S. Department of Education data on academics and student life as well as parent and student reviews to determine the top schools in each area. That takes into account factors such as state test scores, student-teacher ratio, student diversity, teacher quality, grade school ratings and the overall quality of the school district.
Niche gave the highest leverage, 50%, to its academics grade; followed by a 20% weight for its teachers grade; 15% weight for its overall district grade; 10% weight for its culture and diversity grade; and 5% weight for its parent and student surveys on overall experience.
