CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More than 1,000 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners (individuals without intellectual disabilities) from across North Carolina are competing this weekend in the 2018 North Carolina Fall Tournament in Charlotte.

The athletes are competing in six sports -- basketball, bocce, golf, roller skating, soccer and tennis – at venues throughout the area.
The tournament started Friday and will conclude Sunday.
The events are open to the public.
Volunteers are still needed.
This is the 50th year for Special Olympics. North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein spoke to the crowd during Friday's opening ceremony at Bojangles' Coliseum.
