CHARLOTTE — Local transportation leaders want to make it easier to get around Charlotte.
They want motorists to travel between Statesville and Rock Hill without getting on Interstate 77.
Officials want your input on the proposed 68-mile stretch by going here.
In September, the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization started a study called Beyond 77.

The idea is to ease congestion on I-77 and improve the commute by utilizing other transportation options.
Organizers are not only looking at I-77: they are checking out main roads within a three-mile radius of the interstate.
They are trying to figure out if the public wants to connect roads around the interstate, add a light rail, bus stops or build more bicycle and pedestrian lanes.
“We really want people to give us feedback,” said Agustin Rodriguez, CRPTO’s transportation and planning engineer. “Now this is the time for them to speak up and tell us.”
