UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Union County sheriff’s deputies say they arrested a break-in suspect not long after the crime, thanks to the victim’s detailed story.
Channel 9 obtained doorbell video of the suspect right before he used a brick to allegedly try and smash the front door in.
“I’m not doing well. My sense of peace is gone since it happened. I’m jumpy,” said the woman of the house. She did not want her face shown.
Her husband, who also didn’t want to be seen, confronted the suspect.
“He’s lucky that he met up with somebody who was basically trying to guard his property and not take his life,” the husband said.
The couple started hearing the break-in around 2:30 a.m. Saturday. The husband did not have his gun, but his wife grabbed hers and backed him up.
Fortunately the suspect, 20-year-old Hector Luis De Dois-Flores, left the home and deputies captured him minutes later.
When asked what his reaction was when the victim said he was going to kill his family, he said, “that doesn’t matter. I would give my life for my family.”
His wife said that made her feel incredibly loved and proud.
The wife owns a business nearby and accepts that criminals could always target her workplace, but this is different.
“These aren’t the type of memories I want in our home,” she said. “If it happens in your business, you got business insurance, it’s just things. This is your family.”
The suspect is in the Union County Jail under a $10,000 bond. He was charged with breaking and entering.
