University-area hotel to be converted to residential units

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An extended-stay hotel in University City has apparently closed permanently and sold to a new owner, which plans to convert the property into residential units.

Charleston, South Carolina-based Blaze Partners and Argosy Real Estate Partners have purchased the former Homewood Suites by Hilton Charlotte-North/University Research Park, at 8340 N. Tryon St.

The firms paid $8 million for the property, according to Mecklenburg County real estate records.
