MATTHEWS, N.C. — West John Street is closed between Highway 51 and Covenant Church Lane due to a water main break in Matthews.
It started around 8:30 a.m. Friday, and crews from Charlotte Water are still working to repair the break.
The road closure is causing delays and detours for drivers.

Drivers can take Highway 74 or Providence Road as detours.
Charlotte Water says most customers still have service.
This area has seen several water main breaks in recent months, including one less than a mile away off East John and Trade Streets earlier this year. Workers say the combination of aging infrastructure and colder temperatures has made these breaks more common.
