What does the change to Mecklenburg County’s order mean for CMPD?

CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department on Wednesday said they are still adapting to the rules and guidelines during this ever-changing pandemic.

The state’s lockdown is slightly more lenient than the stay-at-home order that had been in place in Mecklenburg County, and police said that they’ll be making adjustments accordingly.

CMPD said they have fielded about 2,500 complaints about possible violations of the county’s order and had issued around 18 or 19 citations, with eight arrests -- most of them at a protest outside a women’s clinic.

CMPD Deputy Chief Jeff Estes said those arrests would not happen under the state guidelines.

He said police will make sure that any protesters are observing social distancing rules.
