WILSON COUNTY, N.C. — A Wilson County mother is claiming her 9-year-old was strip searched at school for chewing bubble gum.

Crystal Pickett said her child was stripped down to his bare chest Monday on the playground in front of other students.

She said her son has ADHD and chewing gum helps him relax, a coping mechanism she claimed, school administrators did know about.

Pickett filed a police report and plans to contact her lawyer for legal options.

"At 9 years old, you supposed to have a child that is very happy to go to school. My son is not even happy and he's very frighten and scared," Pickett said.

The school district said they interviewed staff members who were present during the alleged incident and found "absolutely no evidence of a strip search."

Pickett is a teacher with the district and said they have threatened to fire her for publicly coming forward with her son's story.
