Woman killed in head-on crash in Caldwell County

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — A 55-year-old woman was killed Saturday morning in a head-on crash on US 64 in Caldwell County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 7:30 a.m. near Beecher Anderson Road.

Troopers said a 2012 Hyundai traveling west on US 64 crossed the center lane and collided head-on with an eastbound 1997 Ford F-150.

The driver of the Hyundai, Carol Lynn Gilbert, 55, of Lenoir, died at the scene. Highway Patrol said she was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Ford, Christopher Seth Avery, 33, of Lenoir, and a juvenile passenger were taken to Caldwell UNC Health with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation into what led to the crash is ongoing. Highway Patrol said there will be no charges in the case.
