Saddle up for Queen's Cup Steeplechase

MINERAL SPRINGS, N.C. — Get ready for fancy hats, bow ties and some serious tailgating -- the annual Queen's Cup Steeplechase, one of the area’s most unique sporting and social events, is happening Saturday, April 27, in Mineral Springs.

Always held on the last Saturday in April, the Queen’s Cup is held on the grounds of Brooklandwood Racecourse, located a little under an hour away from uptown Charlotte.

Thousands of spectators come to watch some of the most athletic thoroughbreds vie for the first place purse competing at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour.

The day is jam-packed with plenty of fun activities too, like the Jack Russell terrier races, pony rides, and tailgate and hat contests.

General admission tickets start at $50 and children 12 and under are admitted free. Infield tickets and various package options are also available.
