Troopers: Father killed, 2 children hurt in south Charlotte crash Christmas morning

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A father is dead and his two sons are hurt after a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 77 in south Charlotte on Christmas morning, trooper said.

The crash happened just before 9:30 a.m. on I-77 near Arrowood Road.

Troopers said the car veered off the roadway and drove through the center median, colliding with a tractor-trailer that was heading northbound on I-77. The tractor-trailer tried to avoid the car and sideswiped another vehicle in the process.

MEDIC said one person, later identified as 36-year-old Lemorris Agurs, died at the scene.

The two children were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but they are both expected to be OK.

Highway patrol said there is no reason to suspect impairment at this time.

The highway closed in both directions while troopers conducted their investigation. It reopened just after 1 p.m. Friday.
