Man dead after shooting in Pineville; 19-year-old charged, police say

PINEVILLE, N.C. — Pineville police have made an arrest in a man’s shooting death over the weekend.

Paramedics were called around 1 a.m. Sunday after several 911 callers reported gunshots on Windage Way, which is in a neighborhood off of North Polk Street. The callers also said two cars drove off after the shooting.

Police said when they arrived, they found a juvenile walking in the area. The juvenile was a passenger in the car someone had shot at, according to Pineville Police Department officers.

Investigators said the juvenile led officers to a nearby street, Industrial Drive, where they found a disabled Dodge Challenger sitting in the road. Near the car, police found Marquavious J. White, 27, lying just off of the road on the ground. White was shot several times and died from his injuries, authorities said.

On Monday, Pineville detectives announced the arrest of Brandon M. Hynson, 19. Investigators took out warrants for first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle, and discharging a firearm in town limits. Hynson was taken into custody in Rock Hill Sunday evening.

The homicide did not appear to be random, according to police.

If you have information about the shooting, you are asked to call the commander of the Criminal Investigations Division at 704-704-889-2231. You can also call 704-889-TIPS.
