2 homicides reported within 2 hours of each other, CMPD says

CHARLOTTE — Homicide detectives were called to two different scenes Monday night.

Shortly before 9:30 p.m., CMPD said they responded to reports of a domestic violence call near Ledson Court in northwest Charlotte. When they got there, they found 51-year-old John Paul Cousar with a stab wound.

Cousar was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the investigation, 53-year-old James Jackson was identified as a suspect in the case. After he was interviewed by detectives, he was charged with voluntary manslaughter.

No other information has been released about this case.

Someone else was killed earlier Monday evening in east Charlotte, CMPD said.

Police responded to the scene of a homicide along Newell-Hickory Grove Road where someone was found dead outside of a home.

Paramedics initially tweeted they responded to a gunshot wound call where one person was pronounced deceased. Later, police confirmed the victim was apparently stabbed to death.

No arrests have been made in this investigation.

No further information has been released.

Both investigations are ongoing.
