2 teens dead, 2 others hurt after Christmas Eve shooting in east Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating a homicide that left a 16-year-old and a 13-year-old dead in east Charlotte on Christmas Eve night.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers responded to the scene on Olde Savannah Road near Mulberry Grove Road just before 11 p.m. Thursday.

When they arrived, they found three people who had been shot, including Katherine Roxana Lopez Cruz,16, and Michelle Avila Robles, 13. One other person at the scene had a cut on their body, CMPD said.

According to police, Cruz and Robles both died from their injuries — one died at the scene, and the second died at the hospital. A third person is still at the hospital with life-threatening injuries, CMPD said.

“Like I’ve been thinking about that since yesterday, and I still can’t believe she’s actually gone,” said a friend of Robles.

Several neighbors told Channel 9 that they thought there was a part that had gotten out of hand, but police have not said what led to the shooting.

“I was really shocked. I actually wasn’t home as I hear it happened a few houses within my house. I was kind of shocked,” said neighbor Dennis Corrick.

It doesn’t matter to Robles’ friend. All she knows is that she lost a good friend for no good reason.

“She was a very good student at school. She use to, in the hallways, talk to her. She used to hug me all the time when I saw her in the hallways at school. She was a very happy person. She was always laughing,” Robles’ friend said.

No arrests have been made at this point.
