Police: Woman accidentally shot in the leg at NC hospital; search for brother underway

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A woman was accidentally shot in the leg at a Wayne County hospital Sunday night, according to police, and a search for her brother is underway.

The Goldsboro Police Department and Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to an active shooting call at Wayne UNC Health Care hospital at around 8:15 p.m. Sunday, according to a statement the agencies released on social media that same night.

The hospital was placed on lockdown and police found a woman who had been shot in the leg, they said. She is expected to fully recover.

In a statement released on Monday, Goldsboro police said they discovered the shooting was an accidental firing.

“At no time was there ever an active shooter at this location,” police said.

Police also said they have taken out warrants for the woman’s brother, Allen Carmichael, for a felony charge of carrying a concealed weapon.
