1 shot, killed at west Charlotte park

CHARLOTTE — One person was shot and killed on Wednesday morning at a west Charlotte park, officials said.

Channel 9 arrived at Westerly Hills Park along Bristol Drive, where there was crime scene tape up.

People in the nearby neighborhood told Channel 9 what they saw and heard.

“I saw two guys with white shirts walk on the field that tried to scatter out, that tried to get away,” said a neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified.

Police said they got a call about an assault with a deadly weapon at around 11:30 a.m.

They arrived at the park and 18-year-old Isaiah Shorter, who had been shot and killed.

A neighbor said she saw a man leaving the park shortly after the gunfire.

“It really did scare me. That’s why I called 911, because this looked pretty serious. It did not look right, because he was looking suspicious,” the neighbor said. “Because when he was running. He had something hiding underneath his shirt, like something was a weapon.”

Neighbors said they hear gunshots occasionally.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police detectives are investigating the crime.

No additional details have been made available.
