2-headed rat snake ‘Double Trouble’ grows to over 4 feet in length

ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — A two-headed rat snake discovered in Alexander County in 2020 has grown to more than four feet in length.

The reptile, nicknamed “Double Trouble,” still has both of its heads.

The snake was originally found inside the sunroom of Alexander County resident Jeannie Wilson.

Wilson reported that the snake has continued to grow while retaining two heads.

Snake handler Trenton West is now caring for Double Trouble.

The occurrence of a two-headed snake is rare in nature. The condition is estimated to affect only one out of every 10,000 births.
