CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Three people were killed by gunfire at two different homes in Charlotte. All of them happened in one night.
Channel 9 was there Saturday night as dozens of detectives swarmed Lantana Avenue in east Charlotte.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Melvin Ashby, 26, was shot at a home.
Police were called to the scene just before 8 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from someone at the home.

Arriving officers found Ashby dead.
Police tell Channel 9 Ashby knew the shooter.
Authorities said on Friday officers responded to the same home on a domestic disturbance call involving Ashby, but they determined no crime had been committed.
Two hours later, another deadly shooting occurred in northwest Charlotte in which two people were killed.
Police said it was the result of domestic violence.
Detectives rushed to the home on Mount Holly-Huntersville Road at 10 p.m.
A woman told Channel 9 her father and his girlfriend were both shot by the girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend.
Channel 9 was told her ex-boyfriend then turned the gun on himself. Police said Kevin Conner, 50, also died.
The other man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Officials did not identify him and said Sunday he was still in critical condition, but stable.
Many Charlotte residents said all the violence is just too much.
“It really gets to me, so many people that have lost their lives to senseless mess like that, it’s sad,” said resident Janet Brown.
