3 NC colleges among Top 50 in US

CHARLOTTE — Heading into the spring season means many high school students are looking for their home for the next four years.

In North Carolina, there are plenty of options when it comes to colleges, some of which have been ranked among the best in the nation.

Three NC schools ranked inside the Top 50 of the U.S. News Best National University Rankings. The list ranks the top schools around the country.

Duke University was the highest-ranked school in the state, coming in at 10. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Wake Forest University tied for 29th.

Notable schools in the Carolinas to rank inside the top-100 are North Carolina State (72nd), Clemson University (77th) and Elon University (89th).

Below is how North Carolina schools were ranked in the Top 50.

#10: Duke University: Duke University is a private institution that was founded in 1838. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 6,883 (fall 2021), its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 8,693 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. Duke University’s ranking in the 2022-2023 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, #10. Its tuition and fees are $63,054.

#29: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is a public institution that was founded in 1789. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 19,897 (fall 2021), its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 729 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s ranking in the 2022-2023 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, #29. Its in-state tuition and fees are $8,998; out-of-state tuition and fees are $37,558.

#29: Wake Forest University: Wake Forest University is a private institution that was founded in 1834. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 5,472 (fall 2021), its setting is suburban, and the campus size is 340 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar. Wake Forest University’s ranking in the 2022-2023 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, #29. Its tuition and fees are $62,128.
