"Someone stormed in our house with a gun and shot my girlfriend," said Garrett Hatley, the boyfriend of 17-year-old Jennifer Merriman.

He dialed 911 just seconds after watching his girlfriend and her aunt shot inside their home on Richfield Road.

Rowan County sheriff's investigators said Montannez Moody was the gunman.

"Where is he at?" the dispatcher said in the 911 call.

"He jumped out the window," Hatley said.

"What kind of gun?" the dispatcher said.

"It was like a -- I don't know -- it was like a small Uzi," Hatley said.

Hatley said the couple dated for nearly two years.

Hatley never imagined Saturday night would be the last night they spent together.

Jennifer died on the way to the hospital.

Authorities said Moody's crime spree extended beyond Richfield.

They said after the shootings, he traveled to Guilford County, where he forced a woman and her boyfriend inside his car.

Police said he ordered the woman to drive and later kicked the boyfriend out of the car on East Fairfield Road.

Authorities said Moody then drove to Edgecombe County, where he raped the woman in the woods.

She was able to lead police to that same area, where they found Moody dead of a drug overdose.
