‘Acted quickly and with selflessness’: NC officer saves woman moments before train crash

DURHAM, N.C. — A North Carolina officer is being praised after she pulled a woman out of a stalled car moments before a train crash.

It happened just before 3 a.m. at the intersection of Fayetteville and Pettigrew Street, according to our news partner WTVD.

When the car still would not move, authorities said DeSantis took her patrol car and the driver to safety away from the tracks.

Officer Stacey DeSantis works at North Carolina Central University and officials said she was conducting a wellness check when she saw the car stopped on the train tracks.

The female driver reported the car wouldn’t move, but DeSantis noticed a train approaching so she tried to move the car.

“Officer DeSantis acted quickly and with selflessness after seeing an individual in distress; her actions are to be lauded and commended,” said NCCU.
