ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. — A 45-year-old woman was arrested and charged Thursday with assaulting and striking a girl with a disability, the Alexander County sheriff said in a news release.
Dottie Lynn Bailey, of the Wittenburg community, allegedly forcefully grabbed the girl’s arm and spanked her.

Bailey turned herself in at the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office and was placed under a $5,000 secured bond.
Bailey was employed by Alexander County Schools, the sheriff said.
She faces a misdemeanor charge of assault on a handicapped person.
Her first appearance court date is on Feb. 24.
A school district spokesperson said Bailey was employed at Hiddenite Elementary School and resigned in December 2019.
