Amazon hosts information session about Richmond County data center

RICHMOND COUNTY, N.C. — Amazon is hosting an information session on Tuesday about its data center being built in Richmond County.

It’s being held at the Richmond County Community College until 7 p.m.

Amazon is answering questions about construction, energy and water usage, workforce development and more.

Last month, Channel 9 was at a hearing where residents voiced their opposition to the project.

Many voiced concerns over potential noise and air pollution.

On Monday Channel 9 learned that Amazon and Duke Energy have been given approval to run 600 Diesel generators at the data center campus being built in Hamlet.

The Department of Environmental Quality approved their applications.

The DEQ says they will be monitoring the generators closely due to local pollution concerns.
