Red Cross helps 28 people displaced by apartment fire in east Charlotte

CHARLOTTE — Volunteers with the American Red Cross have stepped in to help residents displaced after a fire at an apartment complex in east Charlotte Saturday afternoon.

Charlotte firefighters responded to an apartment complex on English Hills Drive, near the intersection of Albemarle Road and W.T. Harris Boulevard, around 1:30 p.m. When crews arrived, they saw heavy flames coming from the second and third floors.

MEDIC said nobody was hurt in the blaze.

The American Red Cross said at least 12 apartment units were affected and the Greater Carolinas Region’s Disaster Action Team were helping those families who were impacted.

Officials estimated the fire created $330,000 worth of damage.

The fire remains under investigation.
