App State incentives students, staff to get COVID booster shot

BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University is encouraging its community members to get the new COVID-19 booster shot with the offer of a little incentive.

A $50 Amazon gift card is waiting students and faculty who get the updated vaccine, the school said. The shots were made available free of charge starting this week at the school’s health center.

The school said of majority of its students are vaccinated against COVID-19.

Chancellor Sheri Everts said the new booster will help the university protect students and the Boone community this fall.

“We’re offering a $50 Amazon gift card to anyone who gets vaccinated … that’s students, faculty and staff. And that can be a booster shot as well,” she said. “We’re really excited about that opportunity.”

App State said it is asking students to make an appointment prior to getting the vaccine.
