‘Be in pursuit of the ultimate good’: Community to honor fallen officer 1 year after death

MOUNT HOLLY, N.C. — Blue porch lights will be on display Saturday in Mount Holly for an officer killed in the line of duty a year ago on Dec. 11, 2020.

Tyler Herndon was shot answering a burglary call two days before his 26th birthday.

Officers asked people to display blue porch lights for the week leading up to that day to remember Herndon and support his family.

“That’s an honor to me and my family,” his father, Mark Herndon, said. “I struggle every day. I break down three or four times a week just thinking about him. I miss him.”
