Big 22 Finalist: East Lincoln’s Jaxon Dollar

LINCOLNTON, N.C. — East Lincoln tight end Jaxon Dollar has been making headlines all season with eye-popping stats. Heading into last week’s win over Hickory, Dollar had posted 60 catches for over 1,100 yards and 15 touchdowns, including a six-touchdown performance against West Iredell.

That performance, though, was in a loss, which means he had to hear it from the opposing sideline, getting a heavy dose of chirping.

“If they’re winning, they say whatever they want. It’s usually just, ‘You’re trash.’ I’m not even bothered by it anymore, but it’s funny because it’s like, if you want to call me trash, you’ve got to at least lock me up, but nobody’s done that yet,” Dollar said.

Nobody’s done it, no matter the coverage. Last Friday against Hickory, there was a double-team on every snap, sometimes even a second safety over the top to help the traveling corner. It can be frustrating at times for the future Georgia Bulldog, but Dollar has learned to be patient.

“Last year, I wanted the ball every play. Who doesn’t? But just knowing that if I don’t get the ball, my team still wins. It’s a win in the books regardless. No matter if I have 12 touchdowns in a game and we lose, it’s still a loss. So as long as we get the win, that’s all that matters,” Dollar said.

Voting for our Player of the Year ends next Monday at 10 a.m.
