DAVIDSON, N.C. — Two state senators filed a bill this week that would give Davidson hundreds of thousands of dollars to make the town safer for pedestrians.
If approved, Davidson would get $600,000 to enhance crosswalks, install flashing beacons, and raise walks throughout Davidson.
Mayor Rusty Knox told Channel 9 that the town of Davidson would like to improve busy areas, including Jetton Street and Peninsula Drive near Harris Teeter and Concord Road near the college.
On June 17, 2021, Suzanne Younts, 64, was struck and killed at the intersection of Main Street and Concord Road in downtown Davidson.
“What concerns me is when people come in from out of town and don’t really respect our crosswalks,” said Lori K. Tate, of Cornelius. “They don’t know the history of what has happened with certain instances in the past.”

The town created a Pedestrian Safety Task Force in response to prevent future tragedies.
