Boil water advisory lifted in Monroe after crash cuts power to city’s treatment plant

MONROE, N.C. — Officials in Monroe have lifted a boil water notice after a crash cut power to the city’s water treatment plant.

The crash happened around 10 p.m. Monday on Old Camden Road.

Officials said the emergency backup generators at the water treatment facility did not immediately come on, which affected the ability the serve residents in the area.

Customers in the central portion of the city were affected by the power loss and many experienced low water pressure.

The water pressure returned to normal about three hours after the crash.

The systems have all been restored but as a precaution, officials wanted residents to boil their water for one minute before using it.

The city said there was no immediate reason to believe the drinking water is unsafe.

By Wednesday morning, the boil water notice had been lifted.
