BOONE, N.C. — The Town of Boone lifted Stage 2 water restrictions today and transitioned to Stage 1 voluntary water restrictions. The change takes effect immediately for all municipal residential and commercial water customers.

Town officials confirmed that required conditions have been met to lift the mandatory Stage 2 restrictions. However, local officials continue to urge all water customers to practice voluntary conservation measures.
Under Stage 1 guidelines, residents are asked to take showers instead of baths and limit shower times to 4 minutes or less. Municipal guidance also advises against flushing toilets after every single use and asks residents to turn off faucets while shaving or rinsing dishes.
To manage household water use, officials advise running dishwashers and clothes washers only with full loads. Customers are also encouraged to install flow-restrictive devices and limit the operating hours of water-cooled air conditioning systems.
Outdoor guidelines call for minimizing vehicle washing and limiting lawn, garden and plant watering to the minimum needed for vegetation to survive. The town also asks customers to avoid using potable water to wash down outdoor surfaces such as sidewalks, patios, parking lots and service bays, while reusing water whenever legally permitted.
