Brewery set to debut South End home after overhauling space

CHARLOTTE — HopFly Brewing Co. is tapping into the Charlotte market with its new South End taproom and production facility at 1327 S. Mint St. The Rocky Mount brewery opened on Friday.

It spent 18 months looking for space in the Queen City before striking a deal to acquire the Unknown Brewing Co.’s lease and assets. Founder Cam Schulz says he thinks Charlotte is the best and most competitive craft-beer market in the state.

“We want to play in the best market, be alongside the best producers in the state,” he says.

HopFly has spent the past six months transforming the 25,000-square-foot space in South End’s Gold District. Schulz says he expects that pocket of South End to continue to boom.

“We’ve always believed in this location,” he says.

HopFly gutted the building, giving it a fresh start.
