CHARLOTTE — Charlotte City Council has approved a $4.1 million reimbursement request for proposed public infrastructure improvements at Brookhill Village.

The funds will reimburse Cornelius-based Griffin Brothers Cos., who has owned the property’s land lease since 2022, for necessary infrastructure work at the South End property. Planned improvements include public streetscape and roadway work across the site, new sidewalks, more than 300 added trees and professional landscaping, updated drainage, curbs, gutters and utility systems. It also includes the extension of Dunavant Street across South Tryon Street.

Council approved the reimbursement request unanimously during its regular meeting on Oct. 12. The funds will come from the city’s 2026 or 2028 general obligation bond referendum or through a combination of payments from other municipal sources.

LaWana Mayfield, council member at-large who previously represented District 3 from 2011 to 2019, said one of the greatest challenges during those years on City Council was working to figure out the best way to support redevelopment at Brookhill Village. Mayfield said she is pleased the council has agreed to provide reimbursement funding that will help move the project forward.
