BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. — Residents in Brunswick County are back in their homes after crews worked overnight to contain a massive forest fire.

Neighbors in Shallotte were evacuated Thursday night.

Officials say the fire is mostly contained now.

A Brunswick County Commissioner believes it might have been a flare-up from a previous fire in July.

According to the Brunswick County Government Facebook page, the wildfire area is estimated at around 50 acres, and heavy smoke will remain for some time and may reduce visibility.
