Centene CEO on why the company picked Charlotte for expansion

CHARLOTTE — Centene Corp. CEO Michael Neidorff has lofty plans for Charlotte.

Centene, a health insurance company reporting nearly $75 billion in revenue last year, announced last week it will add more than 3,200 jobs here over the next decade. It is also building a 1 million-square-foot campus on 80 acres at University Research Park near the intersection of Mallard Creek and Governor Hunt roads. The company is under contract for another 50 acres there.

The announcement marked North Carolina’s largest jobs deal to date.

Charlotte’s growth falls in line with Centene’s rapid expansion plans. Neidorff noted several factors in Charlotte’s favor: the international airport, effective leadership, transit and the education system.

Another factor was the available talent here.

Neidorff spoke with the Charlotte Business Journal about these and other factors in the company’s decision to expand here. Read the full story here.
