CFD: 1 killed in south Charlotte house fire

CHARLOTTE — A person has died following a house fire in south Charlotte Friday evening, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.

It began just before 7 p.m. on the 1000 block of Montford Drive.

Firefighters said it took them just under an hour to get the fire under control.

While searching the home, they found a male deceased. A

“On behalf of Charlotte Fire, I extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim lost in this tragic incident. Our thoughts remain with those affected as we continue to support them in the days ahead,” said Charlotte Fire Chief Reginald T. Johnson.

The other residents of the home are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Firefighters said an investigation determined the fire was accidental and originated in the carport area.

It caused an estimated $150,000 in property damage.
